Local Development

Set up the site locally, validate patterns, and work with the current Bun-based workflow.

Overview

This repository is now Bun-first and Astro-first. The main workflow is:

  1. Install dependencies with Bun
  2. Run the web app locally
  3. Validate pattern content before you ship changes
  4. Rebuild generated data when source pattern files change

Prerequisites

  • Bun
  • Git
  • A code editor

Clone and Install

git clone https://github.com/nibzard/awesome-agentic-patterns.git
cd awesome-agentic-patterns
bun install

Core Commands

Run these from the repository root unless noted otherwise.

# Start the Astro app locally
bun run dev

# Build generated data and the production site
bun run build

# Validate frontmatter and required fields
bun run validate:patterns

# Run stricter content validation
bun run validate:patterns:content

# Rebuild generated JSON, feeds, and static exports without a full site build
bun run build:data

The local site is available at http://localhost:4321.

Adding or Editing Patterns

  1. Start from TEMPLATE.md or patterns/TEMPLATE.md.
  2. Add or update the markdown file in patterns/.
  3. Make sure frontmatter is complete:
    • title
    • status
    • authors
    • category
    • source
    • tags
    • updated_at when the content changed materially
  4. Run:
bun run validate:patterns
bun run validate:patterns:content
bun run build:data

This regenerates the README catalog sections as well as the site data under apps/web/public/.

  1. Preview the site with bun run dev and check the pattern page in the browser.

Editing Guides and Site Copy

  • Guides live in apps/web/src/content/guides/
  • Shared UI lives in apps/web/src/components/
  • Browse and detail pages live in apps/web/src/pages/

If you only changed guides or page copy, bun run dev is usually enough. If you changed pattern source files, regenerate data with bun run build:data.

Build Outputs

The production site build goes to apps/web/dist/.

Generated public data for the site lives under apps/web/public/data/.

Common Tasks

Work on the design or UI

bun run dev

Edit files in apps/web/src/.

Validate a pattern submission

bun run validate:patterns
bun run validate:patterns:content

Refresh generated catalog data

bun run build:data

Produce a production build

bun run build

Troubleshooting

bun not found

Install Bun, then verify:

bun --version

Port 4321 already in use

bun run dev -- --port 4322

Pattern data looks stale

Rebuild generated data from the root:

bun run build:data

Validation fails on updated_at

Use YYYY-MM-DD format, for example:

updated_at: '2026-03-11'
